HUNTER'S BAR INFANT SCHOOL
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Following consultation with parents, children and staff and agreed by the Governing Body in March 2012, in order to generate a feeling of community, belonging and a positive self-identity it was agreed that:
Clothes should be comfortable and appropriate for the weather, including a hat and sun cream in the summer, a water resistant coat during wet weather, and warm outdoor clothing in the winter.
The following clothes fall within our dress code:
- Plain sweatshirt, fleece or cardigan in red or bottle green
- Plain polo shirt in red, bottle green or white
- Plain dark trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafore dress in navy, black or dark grey
- Check dresses in red/white or green/white
Parents have the option of purchasing tops embroidered with the school logo through two different school uniform providers. Please see the links on this page for up to date prices and photographs from the online provider along with details on how to place your order.
Alternatively parents/carers can purchase appropriately coloured items from other suppliers (e.g. major supermarkets and chain stores).
The Home School Association (HSA) will arrange for second hand items to be available for parents and carers to purchase, if they wish.
Please note other items are listed as not acceptable in the section headed Health & Safety.
RELIGIOUS DRESS
In line with the school’s Equality Policy, scarves and hats can be worn indoors for religious reasons. Where ever possible these items should be in one of the dress code colours. Please consult with the School and Governing Body if you have any questions.
HEALTH & SAFETY: CLOTHING & FOOTWEAR
If children attend school in clothing or shoes not covered in the uniform remit and which the staff team consider to be inappropriate for health and safety reasons this will be communicated to parents and carers by the head teacher. Such items include strappy or backless tops that allow over exposure of delicate skin to the sun or very short tops and shorts.
Children should wear safe, comfortable footwear, appropriate for the season. The following styles of footwear are not acceptable:
- high heels and high platform shoes
- flip flops, shoes without backs, opened toe shoes, jelly shoes, slip-on shoes eg ballet shoes and Crocs
- fashion boots or shoes that do not facilitate active play.
If children come to school in wellington boots please provide a change of shoes to wear indoors.
CLOTHING FOR PE
All children are required to independently get changed in their classrooms for all PE sessions, including KIXX sessions.
This decision has been made to ensure maximum safety and enjoyment in all PE sessions.
We ask that children have a drawstring bag containing PE kit in school at all times. The bag and its contents should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and stored on your child’s peg.
Our recommended PE kit is:
- Shorts, skort, leggings or jogging bottoms
- A plain t-shirt/polo shirt
- A sweatshirt
- Plimsolls or sports trainers (separate to school shoes and kept in PE kit)
For your convenience, PE shorts and t-shirts bearing the school logo are available for purchase using the same website as regular uniform, should you wish to use this option.
In addition to the above, we request that all children with long hair ensure it is tied back securely before participating in PE. If your child has long hair please ensure there is a stock of hair ties in their PE kit bag. This measure is designed to prevent any potential accidents or injuries, as loose hair can become caught in PE equipment.
Children will also be expected to partake in gymnastics sessions in bare feet.
All jewellery (studs and watches) must be removed prior to PE sessions. Newly pierced ears are to be covered by plasters, brought from home, for 6 weeks. If, after this period children are unable to remove their studs independently, they must be covered with microporous tape or plasters brought from home for the safety of your child and others.
For the safety of all children, those who do not have their PE kit available in school will not be able to participate in PE lessons.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and organised environment for our children.
JEWELLERY
No excessive jewellery should be worn in school. All jewellery should be removed (by the child themselves) for PE activities. If this is not possible, earrings should be covered with plasters/surgical tape (provided from home), which the child must apply independently. Covering earrings, rather than removal, is a precaution only and may not prevent injury in the event of, for example, a ball going astray or a flailing arm bumping into the ear area.
LABELLING OF CLOTHES
Please clearly label all of your child’s clothes and shoes. It is much easier to identify and return your child’s clothes if they are labelled.
LOST PROPERTY
Unnamed lost property items are taken to in a box in the school entrance, or in the case of Reception there is a box by their entrance. These items are displayed for parents termly.
