HUNTERS BAR INFANT SCHOOL
CLASS NINE BUTTERFLIES
We are a Year 2 class. Miss Redhead is our class teacher and our Learning Support Assistant is Miss Edwards. Mrs King will also teach our class once a week; she usually takes us to the Media Suite for our Computing lesson.
In our classroom we have a wide range of activities, including drama, creative resources and writing activities to support our learning, and our learning can take many forms. Over the year we will look at topics such as Arctic, Victorians, Space and Africa. Learning Grids, Curriculum Maps and a Vocabulary Mat are sent home at the start of each topic and are also posted on our class blog.
We go outside EVERY day; learning outdoors in all weathers.
Reading is very important so please ensure that your child has their reading diary and a book in their book bag each day. We encourage children to take a story book from our class book browser home too. When your child has completed 60 reads in their reading diary they will receive a certificate in our weekly Celebration Assembly.
Throughout the year we look forward to many trips into the local community and further afield, such as the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
We also really value the importance of showing children the wider world, and so if you have a particular talent or skill you would like to share with the children then please let us know. In the past we have had parent artists, poets, musicians, police officers, doctors and scientists come and talk to the children. We really appreciate people giving up their valuable time when they can, to help the children with artwork, play games or read with them.
If you would like to volunteer to help with talks and visits, on school trips, or to volunteer in our class with reading, etc. please talk come and talk to one of us.
It is really helpful if each child had a bookbag. These can be purchased from the school office. We use these to send letters home in, and as the year progresses we will also be sending books home in them. Please check for letters in your child’s drawer. Many of these are also posted on our class blog so do take a look regularly.
We also encourage you to take home your child’s Reading Diary along with a banded reading book and a story book from our classroom book. Please take time to write in your child’s reading diary after listening to them read. After 60 reads your child will receive a reading challenge certificate in our Celebration Assembly.
Please send your child to school with a water bottle with fresh water in each day. They can access these at all times during the school day.
School will provide your child with a free piece of fruit each day – banana, tomatoes, carrot, sugarsnap peas, apple are some examples. You have the option of paying for your child to have milk each day. You can obtain a letter from the school office for this.
PE days change each half term. Please ask the class teaching staff if you are unsure. We use our PE kit for extra- curricular activities too, so it needs to be on our coat pegs every day. In your PE kit there should always be shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms, a t-shirt, trainers or pumps (plimsoles) and a tie for long hair. Earrings should be removed of covered. Please ensure all items and the bag are named.
In the Summer term all Year 2 children will go swimming at King Edwards School. For this children will need a full swimsuit, trunks or swim shorts. Your child will also need a backpack with a towel, spare underwear and optional goggles. More details of this will be sent home nearer the time. Earrings must be removed before swimming lessons.
CHANGE OF CLOTHES
We also advise that all children have a spare change of socks and underwear in their PE bags in case of accidents or water spills. Thank you for putting your child’s name on each item of clothing– it’s a great help.
We really value strong links between school and home and over the year offer workshops for parents to discuss how children learn. Look out for information on curriculum, reading and maths workshops in the coming months. Please know that our door is always open and we are always available for a chat or update on how your child is getting on at home or at school. Just find one of us at the beginning or end of the day to arrange a time to talk.
