Childcare Update: 22nd March 2020

We would like to thank you for being patient with school’s response to the latest government information that was released last week. The list of key workers was released at midnight on Thursday and it has been a mammoth effort by staff to organise both the list of children requiring childcare and the rota of staff who will support. Many staff are self isolating and it is a changing daily picture. This means that there is a much reduced capacity within school.

Currently, we estimate that there will be around 70 children in school but this figure may increase on Monday. This means that we cannot guarantee social distancing and the children will be in larger groups.

We would urge you to take note of the government message that the key principle behind the provision arrangements for Monday is that wherever possible children should be at home. Here is a reminder of the advice that was sent from Sheffield City Council:

‘If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.

That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.

It is important to underline that schools, colleges and other educational establishments remain safe places for children. HOWEVER, THE FEWER CHILDREN MAKING THE JOURNEY TO SCHOOL, AND THE FEWER CHILDREN IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS, THE LOWER THE RISK THAT THE VIRUS CAN SPREAD AND INFECT VULNERABLE INDIVIDUALS IN WIDER SOCIETY.’
